In this five-day workshop, the focus will be on ways to inspire you and jump start your creativity so you can produce original works of art in the quilt medium (even if you think you are not creative!). We will talk about ways and places to find inspiration and how to keep yourself inspired. There will be a presentation on composition, design and colour, with discussion to follow. Learning about design is really important to the visual success of your work. You will be introduced to three methods for designing original art quilts:
1) “seat of the pants” design;
2) planned design (creating a pattern); and
3) piecing a design with free-form piecing.
You will have the opportunity to complete a small work using each method. Throughout the class the instructor will share her own process for making an original art quilt from beginning to end. Techniques for constructing your quilt, and methods of finishing will be covered.

In our last class we will talk about border options (to border or not to border?), whether or not to frame your work, various options for bindings, facings, and edging, as well as how to label and hang your work of art. We will also explore the options that exist for exhibiting your work, should you choose to do that now or down the road.
